A Message from the Chairman
Posted on 9th May 2025
As the dust settles on the season, I am writing to you on behalf of the Board of Directors. Whilst we share the disappointment felt by all supporters following our relegation from the National League, it is mixed with a huge sense of pride in what we have achieved over the last decade. Our eight years in the top flight of non-league football have given us so many memories, with epic performances and victories over massive former league clubs. For far longer than many thought possible, we were able to avoid relegation and in doing so send down many richer and larger clubs, but unfortunately the odds caught up with us eventually. The season that launched it all, culminating with winning the title at Margate, will remain etched in the folklore and history of our magnificent club.
Monday’s 3-0 win over Boston was a bittersweet occasion. Despite the looming threat of relegation, it was marked by our highest attendance of the season — a testament to the town’s unwavering support for Maidenhead United Football Club. Whether it was your first visit to York Road or your thousandth, we are immensely grateful for the backing you've shown throughout the campaign.
It was not so many years ago that we were a small club in the National League South, often fighting relegation from that level. We return there now bigger, better and more professional in every way and are already gearing up for the challenges ahead. We are in no doubt what a tough division it is, with six teams capable of being crowned champion on the final day of the season. We will be meeting some new clubs, as well as renewing rivalries with some old foes and our job as a club is to be as competitive as possible on and off the pitch.
As we enter the summer break, the focus now shifts to reflection and rebuilding. We retain full confidence in Alan Devonshire to lead us forward, backed by a competitive playing budget as we aim for a swift return to the National League. We will tackle the challenges of the National League South with the same passion, determination, and belief that powered our last promotion campaign eight years ago.
We look forward to welcoming you back to York Road next season, and we hope you will join us in our efforts to return to the National League.
Peter Griffin, Chairman
