The opening weekend of October saw all three of Maidenhead United Futsal's teams feature, and all three get points on the board in the league. A last-minute goal forced MUF Women to settle for a point on the Saturday, before victories for the Men's First and Development Team rounded off a very impressive weekend.

The weekend of futsal started at St. Ives Sports Centre as MUF Women travelled to City of Peterborough Ladies for their third match in the Women’s Super Series Stage 1. Starting the campaign with a 3-3 draw at London Genesis in mid-September, this result was followed by a 4-0 loss at the hands of MK Mavericks.

United Women fought hard to secure another point on the board in a 4-4 draw. With goals well distributed around the squad; Georgia Jones, Megan Packett, Emma Wright and captain Paula Cerro all scored their first of the season. Women’s Head Coach Diogo Luz said: “[It was] a tough test against Peterborough who had very talented young players. Despite our efforts, and going 2-0 up, Peterborough fought back with a last second 10 metre penalty to tie the game 4-4. A learning curve for the Women’s who still look to find their first win this season.”
Maidenhead United Men’s First Team opened their NFS Tier One season on Sunday as they welcomed Hartpury Futsal to Bradfield College. A game anticipated to be tight before proceedings began, did not disappoint. Magpies pivot Josh Gillespie made his much-anticipated return after 714 days off the court due to an ACL injury. His impact was instant, holding up the ball 12 yards from goal before setting Harry Tozer to strike back across the target and open his account for 2025/26. Our England international’s goal would be the difference at the halfway point with neither side able to breakdown resolute defending for the remainder of the opening 20.

Hartpury came out in the second half hungry for a route back into the game, which came inside the opening five minutes of the half. Andre Lucas Nunes latched onto a driven cross and turned the ball in from no more than two yards out.

The close fought game would end up being decided by two well executed set pieces. A foul on new signing Henryk Sehgal opened the opportunity to work a training ground routine. Jacob Evans set Tozer again to strike, this time on his ‘weaker’ left foot but with the same result and restoring the Magpies’ lead. Hartpury ended up being the architects of their own downfall as their goalkeeper touched the ball twice in one piece of play without a Maidenhead touch – which is a foul in futsal. The free kick, taken on the edge of the area, was set back to Tozer to smash home again, completing his hat-trick and ensuring the Men's First Team started their season with three points.

Men’s Head Coach and Head of Futsal, Ryan Walsh summarised his thoughts: "A great opening game from the Men’s First Team against Hartpury, in which they showed the development they have made across pre-season. We executed the game plan well and it felt at points that it may have been one of those days, watching so many chances flash across the back post. However, a hat-trick from Harry Tozer means it was good to come away with 3 points to start the season, but plenty to keep working on as we start with a run of home games.”

The Men’s Development side also got their first points of the season with a 10-9 victory over Futsal 360 Bristol B. After what was an incredibly exciting game; Development Team Coach, Diogo Luz said: “[It was a] fantastic back and forward game, what futsal is all about with a last-minute winner for the 10-9 result! Top stuff from Hugo Lopes on his debut in goal. Dominating the game with his throws & saves, which then helped Ayo Olotin as a pivot score a special 5 goals. A first 3 points for the Devs in their opening game, starting as we mean to go on!”
