Amelie Amongst The Goals As Development Team Battle Beaconsfield
Posted on 9th April 2025
Maidenhead United Development's Trophy-winning season may be over but the Magpies management team have arranged a series of friendlies to augment their campaign, the latest taking place at Cox Green Leisure Centre last Sunday afternoon as United ran a Beaconsfield Town side who look set to move up to Tier 5 - one division below the Magpies first team - for 2025/26.
The Rams ran out 3-2 winners in an entertaining match, with Amelie Mayani - who has also featured in United's first team squad this season - netting twice. The teenager reflected post-match on her goal-poaching efforts: "The first goal was like 30 seconds into the second half. I was in the box, I just remember someone playing it into me quickly, I took a touch then got my shot off because I was quite close to goal and the 'keeper didn’t have time to get down. The second one was from a free kick. Sarah (Thompson) took it from just over the halfway line and I remember just pointing to where I wanted it. I timed my run and as it bounced up, I remember thinking 'just get a clean connection'. It actually came off the side of my shin and went in but I was quite close again to the goal, maybe around six yards, the same as my first one."
The first team are back in action on Sunday 13th April in the FA Women's National League when they travel to Keynsham in a 2pm kick off for their final away fixture of the season.
