CALM Missed Birthdays Campaign
Posted on 12th September 2024
This week, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) launched their 'Missed Birthdays' campaign at Westfield, White City. Tragiclaly, 6,929 young people have taken their own lives in the past decade and the Missed Birthdays installation uses birthday balloons - usually a symbol of hope and future - to bring this tragic fact into national conversation with all 6,929 representing the birthdays that young people were tragically unable to celebrate.
Simon the CEO from CALM said “It’s devastating for a young person to not make it to their 15th, 16th, 17th birthday. It’s absolutely tragic when that reason is suicide. Over the last decade, 6,929 families have been affected by the tragedy of youth suicide. We hope it can open up conversations and give everyone the tools to support the young people in their lives
This World Suicide Prevention Day, CALM has released their C.A.R.E kit, an evolving, free online resource which provides adults with practical tools to support young people - more information about the C.A.R.E kit can be found below - Here you can read more about the C.A.R.E kit and sign up to get practical tips and support from the C.A.R.E. kit straight to your inbox.
Parent. Uncle. Teacher. Coach. - We all have a role to play in keeping young people safe.
At the club we will also be looking to do some local initiatives around the C.A.R.E kit -updates to follow.
Maidenhead United are thrilled to continue our partnership with CALM this season, which wouldn't be possible without our CALM Partners. With the support of nine local business it has enabled us to have the CALM logo on the front of the shirt for not just the men’s first team but for ALL of the teams at Maidenhead United. This season working alongside CALM and our CALM partners enables us to continue to make a real difference in our local community.
Together we can start the journey of ending suicide.
