The Magpies have added some American guile to their roster recently, having waited patiently for clearance to sign Lyndsey Preston. The new signing will have her first taste of playing under the York Road floodlights on Wednesday (29th October) when Maidenhead entertain Abingdon United in the FAWNL (7:45pm kick off).

The experienced 33 year-old wide player comes to the UK from California, having played for California State University of Northridge before representing the likes of Legends FC (both in Los Angeles and Las Vegas), Atomic City and Surf FC in the Women’s Premier Soccer League and most recently Sporting FC in the United Premier Soccer League. And it can be no coincidence that the Magpies have put in improved performances in the two matches Lyndsey has started, culminating in that exciting FAWNL Plate victory at York Road last time out.

Sitting down with the Magpies media team, Lyndsey explained that she came to the UK “to see a different side of football and advance my career. I wanted to try something new and exciting as well as challenging myself to progress as a player. I believe that English football can help me with these goals. I chose Maidenhead because of its competitive environment and seasoned management. I wanted my experience in England to be shaped by management and staff who have developed and played in England as well.”

It has been a whirlwind start for the new signing as she gets to grips with a new footballing culture. Lyndsey continues: “My impression so far of English football is that it’s fast paced and tactical. There’s a lot of finesse on the ball and a lot of grit.” Reflecting on her debut against much-fancied Moneyfields, Lyndsey felt “it was a well fought game” and added “Moneyfields is a good side, but I believe fully that if we clean up certain areas in our play, we can run with the best.”

Lyndsey is settling in well, making an impression and is already a well-liked and appreciated part of the squad. There is a team behind Lyndsey which extends across to the west coast of the USA and the humble Californian was quick to recognise “the strong support system I have around me. My amazing parents Teresa and Mark have always pushed me to chase after my dreams. I have an amazing coach Michael Holzer that I train with back in the states who challenges me every day to get better. I also have my immediate and extended family who support me and are cheering for me every step of the way.”

Admission for Wednesday's game is £5 for adults, £2 for concessions and MUFC Gold Members can attend FREE of charge.
