Maidenhead United begin their Women's FA Cup campaign on Sunday 4th October with a tie against Islington Borough from the Greater London Women's Football League in a match to be played at Burnham FC with a 2pm kick off. Admission for this match will be £5 for adults and £2 concessions.
Meanwhile, despite a late winner for Chelsea last Sunday afternoon at York Road, the Academy team of the eight-time WSL winners could not eliminate United from the FAWNL knock-out competitions in the last round of the group stage fixtures. A third-place finish in a tough group assured the Magpies of qualification for the Plate knock out competition.
Assistant manager Harry Baker beamed: “I’m incredibly proud of the efforts from the players today. The concentration levels were excellent from
the first minute to the last, and the players followed the game plan really well against a very good Chelsea side. We knew Chelsea would have a lot of the ball and that their technical quality would be extremely high, so the challenge was always going to be about staying disciplined, remaining compact and being ready to defend for long periods. The players did exactly that and showed real resilience right until the end. Obviously conceding so late is disappointing, but there are a lot of positives for us to take from the performance. To restrict a team of Chelsea’s quality for 90 minutes shows the character and togetherness within the group.”
