There may not have felt like much to celebrate following the reverse to Aldershot Town last Saturday afternoon but the match marked a significant milestone for Alan Devonshire. The seven-goal thriller at The Rec was Dev’s 800th game in charge of Maidenhead United, across two spells.

Initially coming in at York Road in the summer of 1996, Dev shared management responsibilities with former QPR player Martyn Busby until March 1997 before going it alone after Busby decided to step down. Dev left in 2003 after a hugely successful period which included promotion to the Isthmian Premier League. He was tempted back in the summer of 2015 with United a perpetually struggling National League South club. Nine years on and we are established in the National League.

A full statistical analysis of those 800 games and a review of Dev’s achievements in management – at MUFC and beyond – will appear in this Saturday’s digital match programme which can be downloaded at York Road for FREE.
