Ryan Peters’ Maidenhead United make their last away trip of the season this Saturday to face Hornchurch in a crucial clash for both sides.
Following results over the weekend, the Magpies sit just a point and a place outside the playoffs in the knowledge that a win will suffice regardless of results elsewhere. Hornchurch, meanwhile, find themselves with an opportunity to win the league after a surprise defeat at Maidstone for Worthing.
With so much going on – not to mention an earlier kick off time and fancy dress! – it’s worth reading the following to ensure you have all the information you need ahead of Saturday’s season finale.
The Table
For Maidenhead, it’s, “A win, and we’re in” regarding the playoffs. Three additional points onto their existing tally of 76 will take the Magpies to a threshold which only one of Dorking and Weston-super-Mare can reach.
A draw may be sufficient, but then results elsewhere become more important. Maidstone are the only team below the Magpies who can still reach the playoffs, which may come into play in the event of a draw. If not, then owing to their superior goal difference, a draw for Maidenhead and a loss for one of Torquay, Ebbsfleet, or Weston will be enough for a playoff campaign.
Hornchurch, who are at the very least guaranteed a playoff spot, find themselves as one of four teams who can mathematically win the league (although goal difference dictates that only they or Worthing have any realistic opportunity). Worthing conclude their campaign at home to Ebbsfleet, and will need to match Hornchurch’s result to secure promotion to the National League.
