Two Maidenhead United Women were honoured to be selected in the FA Women's National League Division 1 South West Team of the Year as chosen by the Since 71 blog.
Defender Kajal Malhotra - also voted as MUWFC Manager's Player of the Season for 2022/23 - has played across the back four with real consistency for Ed Jackson-Sankey and was selected as the divisional-best right-back in the team chosen by the respected blog. Teammate, teenage 'keeper Gemma Harvey, was also selected in the squad of XVI to represent the regional fourth tier of women's football.

Malhotra - who has also been nominated for a prestigious Football In Berkshire award - has played most of her football for Maidenhead in the centre of defence prior to this season, but the keen runner has taken to her new role at full-back with typical diligence, recently commenting on her expectations as to how her season would pan out in a positional-sense:

"If you asked me at the start of the season I would have said centre-back for sure!

However, I have really enjoyed playing full-back this year and being given the license to push forward.

It's a very different role and there's a bit more freedom - and running.

Ultimately I'm happy to play wherever I'm needed.

I do prefer right-back to left-back, but the running joke is that every time I think I've escaped it, I somehow ended up back on the left this year!"

Malhotra and her colleagues will be back in training in July ahead of a new FAWNL season, but the club will be running trial sessions from Thursday 1st June for players who are interested in becoming part of a new Development Team that MUWFC will be enrolling into the FAWNL Reserve League this season interested players should contact edsankey23@gmail.com
