Maidenhead United is proud to be supporting Maidenhead’s Big Read on Saturday, 7th March.

Maidenhead’s Big Read is an annual event held across the town that aims to engage and unite local school children of all ages and backgrounds with reading, with a particular focus on those children who are currently missing out on all that a love of books can provide. This year, the focus is “Get Moving”.

Prior to our home fixture against Maidstone United, our first team players will be attending Maidenhead Library, where they’ll be reading poems to primary school children. Acclaimed children’s poet and National Poetry Day Ambassador Simon Mole will be hosting the half-hour session, beginning at 1pm.

The Magpies’ presence coincides with a number of football-themed events for the 2026 Maidenhead’s Big Read, with a wide range of craft activities including:

Treasure hunts
“How Well Do You Know Your Football?” sticker games
Football-themed sticker fridge magnets
Match the footwear to the activities game
“Which is Fastest?” ordering game
And much more!

Diane Flood, an organiser for Maidenhead’s Big Read, said: “We are delighted that Maidenhead United is part of Maidenhead’s Big Read.

“This year’s Get Moving theme shows children how passions such as football can ignite a love of reading, making the Magpies our perfect partners.

“Our aim is to bring families across Maidenhead together to listen to stories, meet authors, and have fun with poetry and books - helping to kick off a lifelong love of reading.”
