The Magpies Women made great strides in the various cup competitions in 2023/24, reaching a best-ever 2nd Round appearance in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and winning the Combined Counties League Women’s Cup. They have been handed a home draw in the FAWNL Cup 1st Round against Ashford Town (Middlesex) Women in a tie to be played week commencing 26th August 2024.

With the season start just over a fortnight away, United’s First and Development teams have been preparing for the ‘24/25 campaign with a series of warm-up matches and hard-working training sessions. Development team manager Ryan Robinson is looking forward to only the second season of competitive football for his team, with a number of new faces expected to come on board for a side which made huge strides in the second half of 2023/24.

Ryan admits: “This year is going to be a case of working with the new players coming in and seeing how well they gel with the rest of the group from last year. it’s important that they are not only talented football players but also really good people because you can’t be a good footballer unless you’re a good person. Another important point for me is that they are a hard worker and eager to develop and push themselves as hard as they possibly can. Based on the recruitment so far I can say that is the type of group we’re building at the moment.”

Ryan has been proud over the past twelve months to see players graduate from the Development to First team and in pre-season he has seen teenager Ashlee Withers (pictured) feature for both the Development and First Team in friendly matches. Ryan added: “Ash is going to be a massive asset for both the Devs and the First Team this year. Her attitude, her desire and her character is second to none. I consider her a leader within the Development group. She is honestly a joy to work with.”

Ashlee and her team-mates are available for sponsorship this season. To find out more about sponsorship packages please contact treasurer@mufcjuniors.co.uk
