Maidenhead United FC Community Trust is proud to be delivering a series of dementia-friendly fitness and wellbeing sessions for Optalis.

The monthly sessions, funded by the National League Trust, have been specifically designed to support individuals living with dementia, alongside their carers, through gentle, engaging physical activity in a safe and welcoming environment.

The initiative focuses not only on physical movement but also on enhancing mental wellbeing, encouraging social interaction, and creating connection. Each session provides participants with the opportunity to stay active, stimulated, and engaged, while enjoying a positive and inclusive group setting.

Helen Preedy, Maidenhead United FC Community Trust Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud to deliver these sessions as part of our commitment to supporting the local community.

“Seeing the positive impact on participants, and moments of genuine joy is fantastic. This programme highlights the importance of creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels supported and valued.”
Since launching in February, the sessions have already had a significant impact. Participants have responded with enthusiasm, enjoyment, and confidence throughout the activities. The atmosphere has been described as uplifting, with smiles, laughter, and a strong sense of community evident at every session.

The programme also recognises the vital role of carers. Attendees are given the flexibility to either take part in the sessions or use the time to focus on their own needs, knowing their loved ones are supported in a safe and structured environment.

Fitness instructor Natalie Lei-Lani added: “These sessions are about more than exercise. They’re about connection, confidence, and creating meaningful moments for individuals living with dementia.

“It’s been very special to see participants smiling, engaging, and enjoying movement in a way that suits them.”

Nighat, a representative from Optalis commented: “These sessions are brilliant; they really are making a difference to people’s lives. Participants genuinely love the classes and really look forward to them each month.”

Maidenhead United FC Community Trust extends its sincere thanks to the National League Trust for their funding, and to all partners involved in making this programme possible. Together, we are committed to creating inclusive opportunities that improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and make a lasting difference within the local community.
