Maidenhead United Women go into Sunday's Thames Valley derby with Abingdon in the FA Women's National League Division 1 South West after victory in successive matches, most recently in the FAWNL Cup against local rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
United however have never beaten Abingdon United in six FAWNL meetings between the sides, with four of those games being drawn including a tense 1-1 draw at York Road last season.
Kitson Says
Manager Dave Kitson is looking forward to being back at York Road for this fixture. “We’re looking to carry on the excellent momentum we’ve created in recent weeks. We know that we’ll need to work incredibly hard again to achieve the result we want but we’re fiercely determined and ready to go.”
One To Watch
Amelie Mayani will be keen to impress against her former club. Amelie (pictured below) is a product of the MUFC Academy at BCA who featured eight times last season, scoring in the Adobe Women's FA Cup against Worthing. Another former Magpie is Emily Norfolk, most recently with Reading. Emily discusses her time at Maidenhead and her move to Abindon United in this Sunday's match programme, sponsored by Printique. You can purchase the programme for £1 at the gate.
Opposition Form
The Yellas have made a great start to the FAWNL season, winning two of their three league matches. However, if Maidenhead can win they will leapfrog the South Oxfordshire side in the table.
