Maidenhead United Women vs Newport Pagnell Town Women

Maidenhead United Women are looking to create another piece of history on Sunday 16th March when they face Newport Pagnell Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Women’s Cup Final at Beaconsfield Town, HP9 2SE.

The Magpies women have never lifted the trophy, despite being finalists four times before. To reach this stage again, Ed Jackson Norris’s side have eliminated Milton United, Beaconsfield Town and holders Reading, scoring 21 goals in the process.

The Cup Final comes as Maidenhead United celebrates inclusivity as part of our partnership with Campaign Against Living Miserably.

The Opposition

Newport Pagnell Town Women stand in the way of the Magpies. The Swans compete in Tier 6 of the women’s footballing pyramid and they are currently in third place in the East Midlands Womens Regional Football League Division 1 North, albeit they cannot now catch leaders Wellingborough Town who occupy the solitary promotion place to the EMWRFL Premier. Having suffered only two league defeats all season, the team managed by Neil Griffiths have shown their quality in defeating three higher division teams in the BBFA Cup already this season.

In Round 1 a last minute goal from Rachael Mumford secured victory over Tier 5 side Wycombe Wanderers. Another late goal then accounted for an Ascot United side who appear likely to join the Magpies in Tier 4 next season, substitute Jasmine Spence with the only goal of the game. In the semi-final at FAWNL Division 1 South East side Chesham United a first minute goal from Mumford set the tone with Chloe Martin scoring the decisive goal midway through the first half to complete a remarkable victory.

Form Guide

United completed a fine come-from-behind victory at York Road on Sunday to defeat a talented Bristol Rovers side. NPTWFC are also in winning form – they have won each of their last four in all competitions, starting with that notable success at Chesham.
