After 119 days away, league football returns to York Road as we play host to the all too familiar Dorking Wanderers. 

 

Opposition three times last year, Dorking and Maidenhead have become no stranger to each other over the past ten months. Saturday will be 108 days since our last encounter with Marc White’s men, a Play-off eliminator gate that still rings fresh in many minds. A game that finished 2-0 on the night also saw our season draw to a grounding halt as Alfie Rutherford and Harry Sidwell did the damage in the first hall fand left United chasing. The last clash at York Road was more favourable from a Maidenhead perspective, as the 2-0 scoreline swung the other direction. Dillon De Silva slipped home the opener after 20 minutes before Liam Dulson, provider for the first, smashed into the top corner for two without response. 

 

The Wanderers have gone about their business in strong fashion this summer, recruiting names like Josh Barrett, George Nikaj and Harry Forster to name a few. Early and astute transfer plans appeared clear to Marc White’s plan to go one better this time round. 

 

There is far from an abundance of players who have played for both Saturday’s sides, but the most notable would be goalkeeper Joe Walsh. The shot stopper was recently recruited by Wigan Athletic on a loan deal from QPR, including making his debut in the Carabao Cup at Barnsley. During the 2022/23 season, Walsh spent time at both Maidenhead and Dorking making two and six appearances respectively along with a further ten at Hampton & Richmond. 

 

The aforementioned Josh Barrett is the one to watch for Saturday’s faceoff. The Berkshire-born midfielder came through at Reading and went to play 13 times and score twice, both against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Cup. His playing career has also seen him represent Coventry, Bristol Rovers, King’s Lynn Town, Aldershot Town on two occasions and now Dorking. A creative midfielder by trait, Barrett has played both in wide areas and behind the striker 

 

A footballing famous face from Dorking is former talisman of the EFL, Jamie Mackie. Beginning his professional career at Wimbledon before joining MK Dons and then a three-year stint at Exeter City. Mackie’s next permanent move took him to Plymouth, where he would score just eleven seconds into his debut and go on to make the most appearances in his career (98). His move to QPR that followed saw him help The R’s to promotion to the Premier and his only taste of top division football for the two campaigns they stayed there. While with West London side, Mackie received his first international call-up for Scotland and would go on to collect nine in total with two goals to add. Spells at Nottingham Forest, Reading QPR again and Oxford United saw out a fantastic career of 555 games played and 83 goals scored. He now works as a football pundit on Sky Sports, most recently featuring on in the 2026/27 Carabao Cup second-round draw.
