Ebbsfleet United vs Maidenhead United

Head to head

It’s the final away trip of the season on Saturday as we make the trip to Stonebridge Road to take on Ebbsfleet United.

It’s the 23rd instalment of the annual fancy dress fixture for travelling Magpies, although whether a party atmosphere will be present remains to be seen with United in a precarious position following two draws over the Easter weekend.

The principle is simple for Maidenhead: win the last two games, capitalise on the opportunity of a trip to bottom-of-the-league Ebbsfleet to claw back Wealdstone’s goal difference advantage of four, and hope results in other parts of the country are in favour.

A win will take United up to 49 points, but results elsewhere could dictate the fate with Wealdstone facing Southend in the 5:30pm kick off. If the Stones win, United will be relegated, regardless of what happens in Kent. A draw or worse for Dagenham & Redbridge would also be ideal for the Magpies. Favourable results (i.e. a win for United, and draws or worse for the two others) would take the survival fight to the final day of the season.

Ebbsfleet’s campaign has been one to forget, with Saturday’s hosts already confirmed for the National League South for next season. The Fleet have amassed just 22 points in 45 games (16 of which have been earned at home). Their Easter weekend saw five goals shipped without reply – four of which came at home to Southend on Monday.

Maidenhead and Ebbsfleet have met many times across the years, and who can forget the famous 2016/17 title fight between the two sides? The Magpies won this season's reverse fixture at York Road 2-1, with goals from Tristan Abrahams and Shawn McCoulsky, and have not lost at Stonebridge Road since March 2019.
