The Magpies welcome Forest Green Rovers to York Road this weekend for the first ever league encounter between the two sides. 

 

Much like against Crawley for the Magpies, Forest Green also suffered FA Cup heartbreak last weekend, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of League One’s Stockport County in extra time. 

 

Since returning to the National League at the beginning of the season, Rovers have enjoyed a successful campaign which sees them 2nd in the table. In fact, our visitors from Gloucestershire have only lost two games all season in the league against Barnet and Oldham, the latter being a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday, 24th September. 

 

This weekend’s fixture marks the club’s second visit to York Road. In September 1989 under the short-lived name of Stroud FC, the visitors faced the Magpies in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round. 232 spectators witnessed a 2-0 victory for United, with Clifford Alleyne grabbing both goals that day. Rovers would get their revenge in 2010, defeating United 1-0 in the Fourth Qualifying Round of that year's competition.
