As we foray further through all the firsts for the season, our first Tuesday night outing takes us to Hemel Hempstead Town. 

 

Our upcoming opposition, much like Saturday’s, were part of the six play-off teams from last campaign. A tightly-contested fixture for both games last season, it was a point a piece both times out. A 2-2 draw in the York Road fixture, where Liam Dulson and Josh Umerah’s goals were twice cancelled out by Joe White. The game at The Focus Community Arena left far more to be desired IN a goalless draw as now Magpie Matty Achuba went closest to breaking the deadlock late on. Lee Allison’s men secured a fifth placed finish last campaign, a position they also take up in the early stage of this season under new leadership. 

 

A sizeable summer reconstruction has taken place in The Tudors’ squad following the arrival of Lee Bircham to a vacant managerial role. Young talent with compliments of experience added as Hemel have recruited 16 players this summer. Jake Tabor is a name that many a non-league fans may recognise as the forward scored 107 goals in 72 appearances for Amersham Town before being snapped up by Swindon Town. Another summer signing avid Maidenhead watchers may recognise is T’Sharne Gallimore. A trialist for United in the 2025/26 pre-season, Gallimore eventually found place at Enfield Town before heading North to Bedford Town to link up with Lee Bircham. 

 

Despite representing both, Gallimore fails to qualify for our played for both segment due to not making a competitive appearance for United. However, our newest signing in Mathew Achuba does following his arrival from Hemel 10 days or so ago. Matty has appeared in both matches since his signing, a cameo off the bench in Truro before making his full debut on Saturday afternoon. The midfield man also played 64 league games for Hemel, with his performances keenly recognised by Tudors fans. 

 

The one to watch for the hosts on Tuesday evening is Remaye Campbell. The “robust” centre forward scored seven for The Tudors in the second half of last season, following his arrival from Hereford. Campbell’s crucial goals in wins late in the season against Eastbourne Borough and Torquay United secured Hemel in those play-off spots. He got off the mark for this season on Saturday when he cooly slotted home from the spot to make it 2-0 against Farnborough. 

 

A famous face born in Hemel Hempstead is Britain’s most successful gymnast, Max Whitlock. Max has won 32 medals across the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships. His first title came in 2012 when he secured gold at the team all-round event in the Montpellier European Championships, along with winning bronze in team and pommel horse at London 2012. To add to his collection of titles, Whitlock has since been awarded both a MBE and OBE for his services to Gymnastics in 2017 and 2022 respectively. Despite initially announcing his retirement in 2024, Whitlock is on the hunt to add to his medal collection with the 2028 Olympics in his sights. For those more familiar with footballing faces, the town of Hemel Hempstead was home to plenty including Harry Winks, Luke O’Nien, Cauley Woodrow and Sheyi Ojo.

The closest train station is Hemel Hempstead (London Northwestern Railway). The stadium is a 45 min walk from the station or a 6-8 min ride in a taxi. 

 

The suggested route from Maidenhead is to take the Elizabeth Line to Farringdon. From Farringdon head to the Thameslink Overground services to St Albans City. From St Albans City Railway Station get the 302 bus towards Hemel Hempstead until Vauxhall Road, from which The Focus Communtiy Arena is a five-minute walk.  

 

Car  

A couple of routes are available to get to Vauxhall Road, via either the M4 or the M40 both can then join onto the M25. Once on the M25 continue to Junction 21 and leaving for the M1 North. Once on the M1, continue to Junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead. Head down the A41 before departing again for Hemel Hempstead. 

 

There is a small car park at Vauxhall Road and supporters can park for a fee of £5 per car (subject to availability).
