Maidenhead United Women vs Swindon Town

Preview

After defeat last weekend to Bridgwater United life gets no easier for Dave Kitson's Magpies on Sunday as they welcome another big-budget side, promotion-favourites Swindon Town, in a FA Women's National League Divison 1 South West fixture to be played at Burnham FC.

Richard Wood's Robins have won 11 out of 11 FAWNL matches this season and they know that victory at the 1878 Stadium could take them back to the top of the division. They have the most dangerous of weapons in their armoury, the prolific club captain Annie Colston who scored her 28th goal of the season on Thursday night as Town bounced back to form with a 3-0 victory at high-flying Bridgwater. Prior to that victory, Swindon had experienced the unusual feeling of back-to-back defeats having lost 10-0 at WSL2 side Charlton Athletic in the Adobe Women's FA Cup before a 3-0 reverse to Tier 3 side AFC Bournemouth last weekend in the FAWNL Cup.

Sunday's match is a reverse of the opening fixture of the 2025/26 season, Swindon winning by 4 goals 1 to at the County Ground in August.

The View

Robins gaffer Wood was delighted with his side's ability to bounce back from heavy defeats in cup competitions to teams in higher divisions as they won at in-form Bridgwater midweek. Wood mused: "It was a good game of football but it was good to see us back to being much more possession-based, considering the games we've had in January, and some of the play was excellent."

There was a first league start for Sky Bedwell on Thursday night and the Swindon forward reflected: "It was good to get a win under the belt and my first league game done, clean sheet as well. Can't complain."

Meanwhile, combative full back Katie Vince (pictured) - who made her debut in the reverse fixture - is bullish as usual as her team mates look to become the first team to take points off Swindon this season: "We as a team are so excited to show how far we have come as a club from the first game of the season to now. Our performance levels are higher, our desire is hungrier and we cannot wait to fight for each other to display a competitive game of football we can be proud of."

With York Road waterlogged this week, an early decision was made to take the fixture to the 3G venue of our friends and neighbours Burnham FC.
