Slough Town vs Maidenhead United
It’s the Berkshire Derby this weekend as we take on Slough Town in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
Dubbed the SL Classico, the two sides meet for the first non-county cup clash in 23 years. However, it’s not Maidenhead’s first visit to Arbour Park following the 2017 Berks and Bucks Senior Cup final against Hungerford – a game which United won 1-0 thanks to Christian Smith.
The Magpies come into the fixture on the back of Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Brighton U21 in the National League Cup. The result marked a stark contrast to United’s league form with just one win in eight; nevertheless, the addition of two loan signings to Alan Devonshire’s squad should bolster hopes ahead of this weekend’s FA Trophy fixture.
Slough, meanwhile, have been on a topsy-turvy run since an emboldened start to the season in the National League South. Last Saturday, the 9th-placed Rebels lost 3-0 to a Chelmsford City side six places below them in a result which resembled Slough’s differing fortunes at home and away. Of their 31 points so far this campaign, 20 of them have been earned at home.
The Third Round is United’s first appearance in the FA Trophy as participants in the Vanarama National League. Slough, on the other hand, entered in the last stage of the competition, advancing through after a last-minute John Gilbert goal spurred a 4-2 win in the penalty shootout.
