Match Report: Solihull Moors 2-1 Maidenhead United
Posted on 17th August 2024
Alan Devonshire made three changes following our opening day defeat to Eastleigh with club captain Alan Massey, Shawn McCoulsky and Joshua Johnson replacing Will De Havilland, Tristan Abrahams and Ruben Carvalho.
It was an uneventful start to the game with both sides battling to maintain possession and neither unable to create any chances in the early exchanges.
It continued to be a slow start to the game with neither side testing the opposing keeper. Alan Massey had a header which blazed over the bar before Jack Stevens tame effort was comfortably saved by Craig Ross.
Nathan Ferguson tested his luck just before the break with an effort from range which blazed over the bar and summed up an uneventful half.
HALF-TIME: Solihull Moors 0-0 Maidenhead United
It was a nightmare start for the Magpies when a Matty Warburton cross slipped through the fingers of Ross and trickled into the net.
Maidenhead responded to the early setback well with a spell of possession, Reece Smith came closest during that period with a strike from distance which he couldn’t get on target.
Solihull doubled their advantage just before the hour mark when a well delivered cross found Thavon Campbell who slotted the ball into the net.
Maidenhead responded well again to the goal and this time were rewarded with a goal. Reece Smith played a ball into the box which caused a scramble, the ball eventually trickled into the net thanks to an own goal from Jordan Tunnicliffe.
The game settled down for the next fifteen minutes before Joshua Johnson let one fly from range skimming the crossbar.
Craig Ross was called into action moments later forcing a good stop from substitute Conor Wilkinson.
The hosts took the sting out of the remaining ten minutes and ran out narrow winners.
