The reverse fixture, also played in midweek, saw The Stags win 2-1 at The Snows Stadium. Joe Oastler opened the scoring halfway through the first 45, scrambling in from merely 3 yards out. Josh Umerah drew United level just under 15 minutes later from the spot. Jordon Ragguette drove into the area before being tripped, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Umerah cooly slotted into the centre of the goal taking us in level at the break. United pushed and probed to take the lead, and for once didn’t find chances had to come by. However, as they pushed Totton capitalised to their susceptibility on the break as Christie Ward was able to tap in a rebounded effort on the counter.
Players who have played for both are sparse but luckily, we have one of them within our ranks at the moment that being Jordon Ragguette. Our number 3 spent three seasons with The Stags during the early stages of his career. Still only 24, Jordon developed a lot in his time at Totton developing a keen eye for goal down the left flank and becoming an integral part of the side that won the Southern League Division One South title. Jordon and The Stags came so close to making it back-to-back promotions, but they were defeated in the Southern League Premier South Playoff Final by Salisbury, who Jordon would join in the summer following.
Stefan Brown is another to have played for both. The striker, now at Reading City, appeared for Maidenhead in the 2014/15 season scoring twice in 19 appearances. But his time at Totton, prior to this, proves far more memorable. Brown spent three years at The Stags and was part of the side who made it to the FA Cup First Round Proper in 2011/12. That game against Bradford Park Avenue saw Brown come off the bench to score a hat-trick in an 8-1 win. In doing so, he entered the FA Cup history books scoring the fastest hat-trick by a substitute in the competition, just 15 minutes.
Alfie Egan has also pulled on both the black and white of Maidenhead and the blue of AFC Totton. Beginning his career at AFC Wimbledon, Egan was released and joined Ebbsfleet United. While at The Fleet, the midfielder joined Maidenhead on loan for the latter part of the 2020/21 season. He went onto make 10 appearances without scoring. He then joined Totton in November 2023, where he’d stay for two months and make six appearances.
Tomorrow’s visitors currently sit midtable after a tricky run of results during the winter period. Despite this, they did see a small resurgence at the weekend in an action-packed 3-0 victory over Dover Athletic. Scott Rendell gave The Stags lift off as he latched onto a deep corner. Just three minutes later, Dover were reduced to 10 men with Harry Beadle given his marching orders for a poor challenge. Totton were quick to capitalise on their man advantage making it two before the break, Luke Hallett this time firing in from a corner. Tony Lee made it three early in the second 45 firing low into the goal on the turn. Numbers were levelled up with 15 to go as Charlie Osborne was dismissed following a melee. The scorer of Saturday’s third for The Stags sits top of their scoring charts with 12 and joint-fifth in the league’s overall standings.
United remain in the playoff chasing pack, three points astray of Ebbsfleet United who take up the last remaining spot. A point on the road at Chesham, at the weekend, kept The Magpies in the hunt. It was the hosts that drew first blood with Mitchell Weiss getting the last touch in what was a rather scrappy finish. United huffed and puffed to try and build some sort of momentum in what was a very stop-start affair. It took 70 minutes but some brilliant build up play from the back drew United level. Asher Yearwood’s low cross was set back into Liam Dulson’s path by Josh Popoola. Liam latched onto the ball and struck first time into the corner. Callum Adebiyi’s late sending off gave United numerical advantage for the closing stages, but it was too late to capitalise on the opportunity. It finished a point a piece in the Berks versus Bucks face-off.
