Bath City vs Maidenhead United
Match Preview
To start September, we head back to Somerset, this time to Twerton Park to face Bath City.
The last time the two sides met at Tuesday night’s destination was in the historic 2016/17 season. United earned 5-1 victory solidifying their spot at the top of the table, Dave Tarpey scored a hat-trick along with singular strikes from Sean Marks and Jordan Cox. Cox’s strike was the pick of the bunch, brilliantly side-footing a looping ball from Sam Barratt into the top corner to round off the scoring.
The reverse fixture saw United win 2-1, with current Magpie Harry Pritchard scoring an outrageous volley and Dave Tarpey hustling his way onto scoresheet before Manny Monthé’s consolation goal for the visitors.
Head-to-head between the two sides has Bath City on top in the last 10 meetings. The Romans have won six while United have only won three. Although, recent results do favour the Magpies as those three victories have come from the pair's last three encounters.
The city of Bath was where Uranus was first discovered, by William Hershel in 1781. Spotting the planet from his garden on New King Street, the telescope and his legacy are now showcased at the Hershel Museum of Astronomy.
Bath City have earned eight points so far this season, enjoying two wins during the busy schedule all teams endured. A 1-0 victory at Salisbury and a 2-0 win hosting Eastbourne, have placed our hosts bang on mid-table. Summer signing from Plymouth Argyle, Will Jenkins-Davies, scored in each of the two victories taking him to the top of their scoring charts. Most recently, The Romans fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dorking Wanderers with Ewan Clark’s goal on the hour-mark not enough to claw back the two-goal deficit from the first half.
United come into the game off the back off a brilliant six-point week, following up a 2-1 win against Horsham with another 2-1 win at Dover Athletic. Will de Havilland grabbed both goals as United put on an impressive away display at the Crabble Athletic Ground.
