Chesham United vs Maidenhead United

Match Preview

The start of a relentless five-week schedule begins on the road at Chesham United.

The sides met on the opening weekend of the season, with The Generals winning 2-1. Alfie Young opened the scoring with half an hour gone, tapping in his only goal of the season so far. Josh Umerah drew United level with just 17 minutes to play. Liam Dulson ran down the right and flashed a cross across the six-yard box where Umerah got a toe on it to divert the ball into the corner. But, with 10 minutes to go Callum Adebiyi smashed in Chesham’s winner from a corner that United failed to deal with.

With both sides playing in the Home Counties, players who have played for both the Berks and Bucks side of Saturday’s clash are not hard to come across. Ryan Upward will be the name on most people’s lips, the current Chesham midfielder departed York Road in 2023. A nine-year stay in Berkshire ended having made over 300 appearances, including being part of the historic 16/17 National League South winning team. Upward’s most prolific season in black and white came the season after as he made 44 appearances in United’s first season in the National League, even notching eight times across all competitions. He joined The Generals in 2024, having spent the season in between in Hampshire with Farnborough. The midfielder featured 20 times last season but his campaign ground to a halt after being stretchered off against Farnborough in April last year.

The Generals number nine for the start of this campaign, Nathan Minhas, has also played for both as he has journeyed across clubs in the Home Counties. Minhas left Chesham this month for Chertsey Town as he searched for more regular game time. The forward would have been looking to build on the 15 goals he scored last season, but his opportunities dried up as the window approached. Minhas was at Maidenhead in the early stages of his career before leaving for Ascot United. He also represented Panjab in the 2018 CONIFA World Cup, scoring three times as the team finished fifth overall.
After a strong league finish last campaign, Chesham are more than holding their own again this time round. They currently sit in 11th only four points off of the playoff spots, tending to be able to grind out results. There have only been three occasions this season where The Generals have either won or lost by more than a one goal margin. Solid defensively, Chesham have shut out eight times already in 2025/26 and impressive displays from Benjamin Goode has certainly helped their cause. The Generals saw off another tight affair on Tuesday night beating Hampton & Richmond 1-0 thanks to Alfie Williams’ first half goal.

United come into the game just two places above Saturday’s hosts, in the pack chasing playoffs. Coming into the game off the back of a 3-0 victory against Enfield Town. A cagey first half, including a red card for the visitors, set up one way traffic in the second. A trademark Liam Dulson strike broke the deadlock on 55 minutes as he arrowed his effort into the far corner for his eighth goal in 2025/26. Sam Barratt made it two from the spot as Asher Yearwood was upended in the area, leaving our 25 to smash centrally into the net. Barratt took his tally to two and United’s to three no more than five minutes later as he found himself in the right place at the right time to tap in and wrap up all three points.
