Maidenhead United vs Eastbourne Borough
Match Preview
To start our busy schedule closing out October, we welcome Eastbourne Borough to York Road.
The two sides last crossed paths in the FA Cup Qualifying Fourth Round in 2022, played just three years and three days prior to Saturday’s matchup. A stooping Will de Havilland header and Emile Acquah’s near post finish were enough to make sure that Jake Hutchinson’s strike in added time was only a consolation. The last home league meeting came in 2017, a penalty from Miguel Baptista opened the scoring before two late finishes from Jordan Cox completed a brilliant comeback and ensured three points remained in Berkshire.
Eastbourne was the birthplace of the band ‘Toploader’, most famous for their cover of Sherman Kelly’s ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’. Released in 2000, their single peaked at number 19 in the UK charts that year and achieved multi-platinum status for sales and streams. Since then, the hit has gone on to be a much bigger success recording in excess of 1.1 billion streams on Spotify and 200 million on YouTube.
The Sports have had a tough start to the season, with five draws and five defeats in their opening 10 league fixtures. They have tasted victory this season through their FA Cup qualification campaign, beating Epsom & Ewell and Sholing before a 3-0 defeat to Boreham Wood halted their progress last weekend. Pemi Aderoju appears to be the player to watch, the young centre forward on loan from Peterborough United has notched seven goals so far this season.
The Magpies come into the game with six wins on the bounce in the Enterprise National League South, most recently with a 1-0 victory over Worthing. Liam Dulson grabbed his fourth of the season that afternoon, smashing the game’s only goal into the near top corner. United also enjoyed a midweek 3-0 victory over AFC Aldermaston in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup as a Quaye Vine double and Noah Stewart strike secured progression.
