Farnborough vs Maidenhead United
Match Preview
In our first of three consecutive away league matches we travel to Farnborough and the Saunders Transport Community Stadium.
In the last fourteen clashes between the two sides, Farnborough have come out on top. Maidenhead have only won three times in that spell, five have finished level, while Saturday’s hosts have won six. The last competitive match between the sides from the Home Counties was in a FA Trophy Second Round Proper replay in 2015. With the initial tie ending 2-2, the replay took the teams to Hampshire and Farnborough ran out 1-0 victors that day as Louie Theophanous scored the game’s only goal with 20 minutes to go.
Our fun fact this week moves away from Farnborough as a location and focuses in on the aforementioned Louie Theophanous. The former Yellows striker, now playing for AFC Croydon Athletic (owned by a consortium including Wilfred Zaha and Stormzy), used to be a body double for Cristiano Ronaldo. A role which would see him travel to Madrid multiple times a year to film adverts for Nike. The night of the most recent clash between the two sides Ronaldo was picking up his third Ballon D’Or, while Theophanous was playing at what was then called Paddy Power Park.
Farnborough have had a difficult start to the 2025/26 season, which may be attributable to playing the majority of the teams in the early play off pack. They have tasted victory twice in the league this season, beating Worthing 1-0 before a ruthless 5-2 win at Chelmsford City. Mason Enigbokan-Bloomfield was on the scoresheet in both wins which accounts for three of his five goals this campaign. Tuesday night saw Spencer Day’s side fall to a 1-0 defeat at Salisbury as Tommy Willard scored the deciding goal on the 28th minute.
The Magpies come into the game looking again to find three points, after twice dropping points at home. A defeat against Eastbourne Borough was followed by an improved performance against Tonbridge Angels. However, United were only able to come away with a point as Josh Popoola’s strike on the verge of half time was cancelled out by Nazir Bakrin’s header soon after the hour mark.
