Hemel Hempstead vs Maidenhead United
Match Preview
In our final fixture before Christmas, and final away trip of 2025, we head to Vauxhall Road to face Hemel Hempstead.
In the reverse fixture this season, the sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw under the York Road lights. Liam Dulson opened the scoring slotting home a well-work Maidenhead move. The Tudors responded just two minutes later as the ball fell fortuitously for Joe White in the area and he was able to finish at the far post. United combined brilliantly again, this time down the right flank, to restore their advantage. Asher Yearwood pulled the ball back to Josh Umerah who opened up his body to find the far corner. On the verge of half time, Joe White stepped up and smashed in a penalty to draw our visitor’s level. Dulson and Owen Cochrane had chances in the second half, but ultimately the game finished with a point a piece.
There are a handful of players who have represented both The Magpies and The Tudors on the pitch. A recent of example of which is centre half Cole Kpekawa who joined Maidenhead from Hemel in 2022. Kpekawa went on to make 25 appearances in black and white scoring three times, he netted the same total in 37 games in Tudor red. He now plays his football for Isthmian Premier League side Potters Bar Town. Non-league journeyman Jefferson Louis also had stints at both clubs, hardly a surprise having made 51 transfers across a 28-year playing career. Starting with Hemel in 2005, he joined for just one game also scoring in said game. He then moved to Maidenhead in 2008, having visited seven clubs in between, where he would feature three times. He rejoined The Magpies in the latter stages of the 2011/12 season going on to make another 12 appearances and notching three goals.
Hemel have suffered a recent slip in results, following a very strong start to the season. A 4-0 defeat to Hornchurch was followed by a 1-0 loss at Salisbury. This proceeded their recent elimination from the FA Trophy at the hands of fellow National League South playoff rivals, Horsham. Two late goals from The Hornets nulled any hopes Hemel had of a cup run at the Third-Round stage. However, The Tudors still hold a very strong league position, sitting in sixth as we enter the 21st round of fixtures. A strong defensive record has ensured that the side sit with the fourth lowest goals conceded tally. At the other end, Millar Matthews-Lewis tops the scoring charts with eight goals including an incredible scoring streak of goals in seven consecutive games throughout September and October.
United go into the game looking to extend their winning run to five games. Wins against Hornchurch and Hampton & Richmond has seen the ‘Peyo Era’ get off to a flying start. A 2-0 against the league leaders was exactly the start he needed as a dubious Will de Havilland header and a stoppage time strike from Jayden Mitchell-Lawson secured a statement victory. Following that up with a victory, just as good, in his first away trip as the new Interim Manager. New loan signing Chanse Headman opened the scoring in his first league start, jolly on the spot to tap home from 6 yards out. Before Josh Popoola secured himself a strong Goal of the Season contender smashing in off the crossbar from 25 yards. Popoola turned provider for the third of the afternoon, delivering a beauty of a ball in for Josh Umerah to stoop and head home. The Beavers did pull one back late on through Ronan Silva, but the dam was already downed.
