Horsham vs Maidenhead United

Match Preview

To begin 2026, we’re on our travels as we head to The Fusion Aviation Community Stadium to face Horsham.

In the reverse fixture, earlier in the season, United got three points on the board for the first time in the 2025/26 campaign. The Magpies clawed back a lacklustre first half performance with a strong resurgence in the second 45 to secure a 2-1 victory. Shamir Fenelon opened the scoring before the interval, a quick free kick set Fenelon free to smash into the net, in a lapse of United concentration. The second half saw what Maidenhead fans would begin to see in the five games that followed, as promise began to shine following a slow start to the season. Remy Clerima’s towering header drew United level with just six minutes gone in the second half. Before, Jayden Mitchell-Lawson found himself in a yard of space in the area to nod in Josh Popoola’s cross – a second assist of the afternoon for him. Moreover, a brilliant moment for Mitchell-Lawson as he got on the scoresheet in his first start in more than nine months following injury.

There are very few players to have donned both black and white and yellow and green in their career, however, one of which was a scorer in our previous encounter. Shamir Fenelon spent the 2019/20 season at United, where he would make 21 appearances and score on five occasions. Fenelon swapped Maidenhead for a one-year stay in Billericay, before heading to The Hornets where he has stayed since. He has been a key part of the side and helped them secure promotion to the National League South last campaign. Amassing over 150 appearances, Fenelon was ever-present in the Isthmian Premier and has featured many a time since their promotion. With 22 appearances in the league so far this season, the ex-Mag has scored twice – one of which against his former side, the other against Bath City.
Horsham have enjoyed a very strong start to their maiden season at this level. The Hornets currently sit just inside the play-off spots, despite a recent slip in results. Following their progress to the Fourth Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy, with a 2-0 win at Hemel Hempstead, The Hornets have failed to win since. A 2-1 defeat to Chesham United was followed by a 2-0 loss at the hands of Dorking Wanderers on Boxing Day. Before, most recently a draw to Farnborough to close out 2025, the game finished 2-2 as Horsham came from two goals down following a Boro red card. James Hammond scored both and sits top of the scoring charts for Saturday’s hosts with six this league campaign. Strong contributions from midfielder, who also registered the assist for Fenelon’s goal in the reverse fixture.

United make up the spots just outside the play-off places as the table continues to remain incredibly tight. After four wins on the bounce, it has been a frustrating Christmas period in SL6. A goalless draw against Hemel provided very little in terms of chances and goalscoring opportunities. Then a disappointing derby day on Boxing Day as United slumped to a 3-1 loss against local rivals Slough Town. Josh Umerah got The Magpies off to the perfect start, but three goals without response saw Slough take bragging rights.
