Maidenhead United vs Horsham

Head to head

In our fourth of four games in nine days, we welcome Horsham to York Road this Bank Holiday Monday.

The most recent meeting between the two sides was in 2007 when Horsham won 4-1 in the FA Cup First round proper – Dwayne Lee was the United scorer that afternoon.

However, United have hosted Monday’s visitors 20 times and boast an impressive record in those fixtures – winning 13, drawing 4 and losing just 3. The Hornets last visit to York Road came in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round in 2006, Lee Newman scored twice that day in a 2-1 victory.

Tomorrow’s visitors hold a rather strange record having witnessed the heaviest hailstone ever recorded in the UK, in 1958. Weighing in at around 140g and roughly the size of a tennis ball, the impact speed of the hailstone was calculated at about 100m/s or 224 mph – roughly the speed of a bullet train.

After being promoted in a dramatic final day last campaign by just one goal difference, The Hornets have had a varied start to their debut season in the National League South. They have picked up four points from their opening four matches coming in a draw against Chesham last week before securing their first win of the season against Torquay United on Saturday. James Hammond opened the scoring for The Hornets on the verge of halftime, before Ed Palmer looked to have cancelled it out with three minutes to go. Only for Leone Gravata to tap home and secure their first ever National League South victory.

United come into the game remaining on the hunt for their first victory of the season coming off the back of being on the receiving end of a stoppage-time winner after falling to a 1-0 defeat at Weston-super-Mare.
