As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Maidenhead United and club partner Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) are continuing to spread awareness and tools to aid suicide prevention.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, CALM are placing focus on seven simple actions you can do to help yourself, or someone close to you, prevent suicide in the future.
To start the week, downloading the CALMZone app provides a great baseline for all your mental health needs. Best of all, it’s completely FREE!
Tuesday requires some proactivity to drop your mate a message, or a quick call, and check in on them. There is no easier time to makes mates than when your common denominator is the football, so reach out to one of those who you may not see during the off-season and ask them how they’re doing (maybe even spark up a conversation about the retained list!).
Midweek might be when the working stress starts to kick in, so practice some box breathing for 10 minutes. It’s a proven method of stress reduction and is even easier by following the simple activity on the CALMZone app.
Thursday, and it’s time to spread the word ahead of the weekend. Take this opportunity to tell somebody about CALM, the work they do and the help that they can provide. Although it may not be needed now, knowing it’s there could be the difference.
Sometimes you can feel like you need an off-season mentally, but all year-round CALM are able to provide resources to keep you going. Subscribing to their newsletter is the best way to receive the latest tips and tricks for helping yourself and those nearest to you. Click here to sign up.
Saturdays without football can leave you feeling lost, but what better time to start the weekend with getting active than as the sun starts to show its face. Whether it’s a 10-minute walk round the block, dusting that bike off for the first time in a while or doing your best Jayden Mitchell-Lawson impression and getting those legs running – get outside and be active.
Sustain the benefits on Sunday and give yourself something to work towards. Maybe Saturday’s run got you hungry for more and a 5k seems like the next logical stop (before you ultimately sign up for a marathon!). CALM’s upcoming events are available here.
