On a day of triumph for English women’s football, the Magpies Women put in what manager Dave Kitson described as an “improved” performance in a 2-2 draw away at Tier 5 outfit Barking.

In a topsy-turvy match, United’s new-look side initially led and later trailed the hosts but fought back to earn a share of the spoils in their latest pre-season match.

Whilst admitting that the performance wasn’t perfect during a transitional summer for the team, Kitson reflected: “We moved the ball around much quicker and our shape is improving. We took our goals nicely and also created a lot of other chances. As a fitness exercise and in terms of working on our shape and positioning it was a useful work out.”

The Magpies manager is also Head of Performance at the football club, and he paid tribute to the Lionesses repeat European Championship success after they defeated Spain in the final in Basel. Kitson was also quick to add that pathways for young women wanting to wearing the black and white of Maidenhead United are in place, with MUFC Juniors and MUFC Performance offering opportunities for girls to progress their footballing journey with our club.

Meanwhile, ahead of next weekend’s friendly fixture at Luton Town, United continue to welcome expressions of interest from players wanting to trial with the team or be involved with the club’s backroom team. Anyone interested in becoming involved with MUWFC are encouraged to call 07904 279027 for more details.
