Obituary | Dave Lawton

All at Maidenhead United were saddened to hear of the passing last week of long term supporter and volunteer Dave Lawton. 

 

Dave was a regular face around the ground at York Road, keeping busy with maintenance of the ground and he also assisted long-serving kit man Jon Urry. 

 

Club Historian Mark Smith paid tribute to Dave: “Dave was a unassuming private person but did an awful lot of work behind the scenes at York Road especially with ground maintenance and general tidying after matches. On a personal he was greatly appreciated by myself for doing an enormous amount of research on my behalf in Nicholsons Room at Maidenhead Library towards the official club history book ‘One For Sorrow, Two For Joy’ and subsequently also for the ‘Lest We Forget, ‘One of the Fifteen’ and ‘One of the Six’ series. His contribution in assisting me was immense and has always been recognised and appreciated certainly by myself. He also found the time to produce a booklet detailing all the matches played by Maidenhead Excelsior.” 

 

The picture of Dave was taken at the MUFC v Oxford University AFC 140th anniversary match on 15th March 2011. Maidenhead United sends its condolences to Dave’s family and friends and mourns the loss of a true club man.
