Maidenhead United Academy prospect Quaye Vine has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The U19s captain said it had “always been a dream” to sign a professional contract in his first interview with club media.
“It’s unreal, to be fair,” said Vine upon putting pen to paper.
The young striker has been a member of MUFC Academy since joining the U16s. Last season, Vine was top scorer for his side, notably netting one of the three goals which led the young Magpies to their first FA Youth Cup First Round appearance in five years.
More recently, Vine scored twice in United’s 3-0 win over AFC Aldermaston.
“Yeah, two goals, I can’t complain about that,” said Vine on his Berks and Bucks Senior Cup debut. “Two good finishes was a great feeling, especially when my friend [Harry Pashley] assisted me as well.”
Vine also noted the “huge impact” his experience in the MUFC Academy had had on his career so far, adding: “[They’ve been] teaching me stuff like front post runs, getting into the box and attacking the ball.
“They’ve had a big part to play in getting me fit and getting ready [for senior football].
Vine has captained the U19s this season, something he attributes to his experience and goalscoring tendencies. It’s a role he enjoys, allowing him to lead by example.
“I came back this year and improved my ways, improved my responsibilities, and I’ve just been trying to be more involved within the team.”
Vine’s father, Rowan, enjoyed a fruitful career in the English Football League, and Quaye attributed his upbringing to his journey so far.
“Obviously growing up he was a massive influence on me wanting to play football,” said the 19-year-old. “I remember being a mascot, when I was in awe how big the stadiums were, how nice the pitch was, all the players, all their cars and all their nice stuff.
“But yeah, growing up, I looked to him, and he's helped me develop massively, and also my mum's helped me develop as a person.”
Aaron O’Brien, head of MUFC Academy, said: “I’m delighted to have another Academy player sign a first team contract with the club.
“Quaye started with us at the U16 academy side. Last season Quaye finished top goal scorer and attended pre-season with the first team and showed tremendous promise.
“Quaye has huge potential, and this was evident with his first two goals for the club in the Berks and Bucks Cup.”
