The Magpies interest in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup ended at the first hurdle at the Iconic Stadium on Tuesday night as Isthmian League outfit Binfield hit back from falling behind early to advance to the next round.

Alan Devonshire fielded a side which featured the likes of Remy Clerima and Zac Bell who are returning from long-term injury and there were also starts for Academy graduates Josh McMenemy and Jadyn Dundas.

Maidenhead took the lead in the third minute when Tobi Sho-Silva at the far post headed home a corner. The home side could have been level before the break when Harvey Collins in the United goal kept out a Mitchell Parker shot with Jamie Hilton hitting the outside of the post from an acute angle on the rebound.

Maidenhead had opportunities to double their advantage shortly afterwards, but Joseph Ajose shot wide when racing clear of the Moles' back line, before Dundas on the turn struck the side-netting.

Half-time Binfield 0-1 Magpies

Maidenhead lacked much fluency in the second period and they were pegged back before the hour when Parker scored from the penalty spot following a trip in the box.

The match became a rather frantic end-to-end affair thereafter, with the hosts missing the only clear-cut opening with a penalty shootout looming. However, in injury time Parker was able to turn and finish smartly into the corner to take Binfield through - deservedly so on the basis of a disappointing second half from Maidenhead.
