Maidenhead United Women were made to work hard in a lively home fixture against Bridgwater United, eventually falling to a 3–1 defeat in a match played at Ascot United’s ground.

Maidenhead started the match brightly, pressing high and looking to move the ball quickly through midfield. Early attacking focus saw Aliyah Charles and Chloe Webb combine well down the wings, with Webb’s pressure causing Bridgwater problems in possession. A sixth-minute corner from Katie Ackerman led to Simone O’Brien firing wide, setting the tone for an energetic opening spell.

Bridgwater responded with periods of possession, but Maidenhead’s defence stood firm. Charley Evans was commanding at the back, winning several crucial headers; Molly McKeever and Megan Harper made key clearances under pressure. Lyndsey Preston tested Johnson in the Bridgwater goal with a well-placed effort in the ninth minute as Maidenhead enjoyed a strong period of play.

Despite Maidenhead’s resilience, Bridgwater gradually grew into the game. Rosie Wilmott-Joyce was called into action on multiple occasions, producing a series of impressive saves to keep the score level. However, on the half-hour mark, Bridgwater capitalised on a loose moment at the back to open the scoring via Zoe Watkins. A second goal followed ten minutes later after sustained pressure, Meg Jarvis giving the visitors a 2–0 lead at the break despite Maidenhead’s positive build-up play.

Maidenhead came out for the second half with renewed intensity, as well as a substitution with Alex Dover replacing Katie Ackerman, adding fresh energy to the midfield. Chloe Webb delivered a dangerous ball into the box early on, met by Harper’s header which was well saved by Johnson. However, Bridgwater quickly extended their advantage with a finish from Jarvis. Maidenhead pressure finally paid off in the 54th minute when Webb assisted Izzy Stockton, who calmly slotted her shot into the bottom right corner to pull a goal back and reignite hope for the hosts.

Further substitutions followed as Maidenhead looked to push forward. Sarah Sparrow replaced Harper in the 72nd minute, while Tarran Williams came on for Charley Evans shortly after, to reinforce the defensive line. Later, Ines Cipriano replaced Webb, adding fresh legs in the final third.

Despite the arrears, Maidenhead continued to fight, with Wilmott-Joyce producing further saves. Late chances fell to Sparrow and Molly McKeever, but the Bridgwater ‘keeper denied Maidenhead a second goal. The match ended 3–1, a scoreline that didn’t fully reflect Maidenhead’s determination and work rate.
