Having excelled in cup competitions over the past two seasons, Maidenhead United Development are back at it again folllowing their heroics at Moneyfields last weekend.

Chris Maynard’s team trailed twice on the south coast but showed the character to come back on both occasions. United’s first goal came from the boot of Alina Kerl, who explained: “Sofia (Allan) managed to win a free-kick jus outside the box. I stepped up and put it over the wall into the left corner. I hope we get the VEO from that one. It has been a long while since I took a free-kick so I’m even happier to have scored.”

Moneys retook the lead later in the second half but with Kerl having seemingly found her touch with the dead-ball Maidenhead were level at the death in this FAWNL Reserve League Cup tie when another free-kick from the Magpies German ace was inch perfect for Chloe Matmuja to nod in a last gasp equaliser.

Having won the Berks & Bucks Women’s Trophy and reached the semi-final of the FAWNL Reserve Plate last season, the Devs are seemingly cup experts and therefore the resulting shoot-out seemed destined to go their way. Captain Lauren Evans, Matmuja and Kerl all converted their kicks and with AmyWhale saving two it was Maidenhead who were celebrating at the end of an epic cup tie.

Proud Maynard added that it was “a really good game today. Drama all the way. We did whay was needed. On to the next round.”
