Maidenhead United’s pre-season campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat at National League North outfit Brackley Town.
United were the better of the two sides in the first half, and had a penalty appeal waved away in the fifth minute when Trialist A was tripped up. Josh Umerah also sought the target with a cheeky toe poke, which gave Brackley ‘keeper Harrison Rhone something to think about towards the half-hour mark. Josh Coley came closest on the cusp of half-time, with his shot drifting wide of the post after some fancy footwork.
Both teams brought on trialists throughout the second half, with United continuing to pile pressure on the hosts. A series of Coley corners tested the Saints’ defence, who did well to keep out the Magpies’ attack.
Brackley substitute DJ Sturridge scored the only goal of the game entering the final 15 minutes. A Saints’ trialist curled a cross into the penalty area, avoiding Ewan Williams but landing at the feet of Sturridge who slammed home the only goal of the game.
United are next back in action on Saturday, 8th August at Truro City for the first game of the 2026/27 Enterprise National League South campaign.
