Maidenhead United’s Under 18s made it three wins from three matches in their debut season in the Isthmian Youth League with a 3-2 victory in an entertaining high-quality clash against a Badshot Lea side who more than held their own against the league leaders.

It had all looked plain-sailing for Maidenhead when they opened up a two-goal inside the first twenty minutes of this West Division clash. Firstly, Murphy Camp-Overy put away a penalty kick in confident style after a foul on Harry Ward. Barely two further minutes had elapsed before top-scorer Ollie Hunt swept home a cross from the right.

The visitors however carved open plenty of good opportunities themselves and they saw three gilt-edged chances created and wasted before United – who had earlier seen Jake Butler denied by a magnificent save from the visiting ‘keeper - opened up a three-goal lead with a quality counter-attacking goal with just under twenty minutes remaining. Having soaked up plenty of pressure from the Hampshire side, Maidenhead attacked with pace and precision and a neat reverse pass from substitute Ryaan Abbas was finished with delightful composure by the impressive Ward.

That third goal eventually proved crucial as the visitors were urged on by their coaching staff who will have been impressed by their young team’s showing and the scoreline had a more equitable look thanks to two goals late on, both very neatly finished from close-range.

United now turn their attention to cup competitions, with trips to Leatherhead and Abingdon United in the Isthmian Youth League Cup and County Cup respectively over the course of the next two Monday nights.

Meanwhile, the Under 19s will be seeking their second National League Youth Alliance victory of the season on Wednesday (8th October) when they make the trip to Eastleigh..
