Maidenhead United’s pre-season campaign began on Friday, 10th July with a 4-1 defeat to MK Dons.
The main aim was minutes rather than a result against the EFL League One side, with 22 players making an appearance across the 90 minutes.
MK Dons opened the scoring within two minutes as Keon Lewis-Burgess lofted past Harvey Collins from the edge of the box. Early substitute Alfie Pendlebury later capitalised on a defensive error, squaring to Trialist A who saw his shot blocked off the line. Josh Umerah also threatened an equaliser, firing wide before the half-time whistle blew.
The Dons doubled their lead in double the time emerging from the break, with Jack Perniskie finding the bottom left corner with a composed effort. Pendlebury himself would then get on the scoresheet, taking advantage of MK ‘keeper Seb Stacey’s mishap to score one of the easiest goals of his career. The third goal in ten minutes came when Rushian Hepburn-Murphy struck past Collins with a tidy finish from 18 yards out. Hepburn-Murphy earned his brace with a quarter of an hour to go with an alert counterattack, placing his strike into the top corner, capping off a warm evening in Berkshire.
United are next in action on Tuesday night, travelling to Summerleaze Park to face Holyport (7:30pm KO). Tickets are £5 adults, £3 concessions with cash and card accepted on the gate.
