Report: Yeovil Town 3-1 Magpies
Posted on 26th October 2024
Maidenhead United’s eight-game unbeaten run came to an end on a disappointing afternoon at Huish Park.
Alan Devonshire made one change from the side which drew against Oldham, swapping out Owen Cochrane for Thierry Latty-Fairweather. Tristan Abrahams also returned to the squad among the substitutes.
Yeovil would have the first chance of the game when Jake Wannell headed over the bar from a corner in the 6th minute, but the hosts would only have to wait another four to open the scoring. Aaron Jarvis would work his way past the United defence, firing home past Craig Ross.
United’s first chance came in the 26th minute, and it proved to be a successful one. Sam Barratt whipped a dangerous free kick towards Kevin Lokko, who converted with a glancing header past Yeovil ‘keeper Ollie Wright.
A quiet first half would end with a fantastic save by Ross. A quick turn-and-shoot by Jarvis forced the United goalkeeper into a diving, one-handed stop to prevent the hosts from retaking the lead just before half-time.
Half-time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Magpies
The second half would be a disappointing affair for Maidenhead, and a sign of things to come came in the 52nd minute when Jarvis grabbed his second. A Kofi Shaw cross would find the Glovers’ striker to fire home and retake the lead.
Yeovil would secure their first win over Maidenhead in the Vanarama National League just after the hour mark, when Charlie Cooper’s thunderous effort from just outside the box proved to be unstoppable.
The scoreline prompted Devonshire to make a string of substitutions, using all five for the first time under the new regulations. While fresh legs brought United closer to Wright’s goal, the Yeovil ‘keeper was left largely untroubled throughout much of the second half.
