Maidenhead United's FAWNL Cup tie at Tooting & Mitcham against Tier 3 side AFC Wimbledon ended in a 6-1 defeat. It was a difficult day for the Magpies who also saw goalkeeper Kody Cornish go off injured on an afternoon where a splendid free-kick from Katie Akerman was perhaps one of the few positives the Magpies could take.
Meanwhile Chris Maynard's new look Development team battled hard in a 3-1 York Road defeat to a strong QPR side. United levelled in the first half when Sofia Allen capitalised on a short back pass to skip through on goal and finish maturely. A second half Rangers penalty and a late third deprived Maidenhead a point.
Manager Chris reflected: "I felt we demonstrated real character and resilience, especially with a few key decisions going against us. We kept pushing to get ourselves back in the game and created moments to do just that, but today just couldn’t find the finishing touches. We pick ourselves up and we look forward to Ipswich next week, where I’m sure if we can replicate that performance we can put points on the board."
The First team travel to Bridgwater United on Sunday 14th whilst the Development team make that long trip around the M25 to Ipswich.
