Maidenhead United’s Walking Football Teams have been braving the heat in the past few weeks, with the league campaign concluding and a cup run at the annual Thames Walking Football Tournament. Read all about how our teams fared in our match reports.

What a scorcher it was this weekend!
We rounded off a fantastic season at the annual Thames Walking Football Tournament and, with a tough Group D draw in the new Over 40s league, we knew we'd be tested from the first whistle.
First up were Bracknell, who play two divisions above us. The team started brilliantly, staying compact and disciplined to earn a superb 0-0 draw. Goalkeeper Jemma produced a string of outstanding saves, while Jo and Debs were immense at the back.
Next came South Reading, with another hard-fought 1-1 draw. Jan put in a composed defensive performance, well supported by Clare and Karen. South Reading created very few chances but managed to convert one of their only shots on goal. Debs responded with a well-taken equaliser to earn another valuable point.
We then faced league rivals Hersham, producing our best performance of the day. Superb passing football created plenty of chances, with excellent link-up play between Lin and Shazza helping secure a deserved 2-0 victory. The win meant we finished second in the group, earning a place in the Trophy Cup.
In the Trophy Cup quarter-final we faced another Division 1 side, Chesham Blues. It was an end-to-end contest with chances at both ends, but a late goal saw our Trophy Cup run come to an end with a narrow 1-0 defeat.
We couldn't be prouder of this group of ladies. To finish the season by competing so strongly against higher-division opposition is a testament to the hard work, commitment and togetherness shown throughout the year. Finishing runners-up in the group and reaching the Trophy Cup quarter final was a fitting way to round off a fantastic season. Well done, everyone!

Sunday 28th June saw the final round of the Maidenhead United Walking Football Team Over 60s’ spring season played at Bisham Abbey in the Thames Valley Walking Football League.
Leading Division Two by three points at the start of the day we knew it was going to be tough as four teams below us were all within six points of each other.
With five games to play and everything at stake we were seeking promotion to Division One.
Thankfully the day was slightly cooler than of late but still in the mid-20s and tensions were high amongst all teams.
We did well and tried to stay on track but the cruelty of football saw us concede a (the third of the day) in the final minute of the last game meaning we drew 1-1 and allowing our nearest rivals (Woodley) to pass us by two points - we would have won the league otherwise on excellent goal difference.
Well done to all of the players in the Over 60s that have taken part this season and helping bring more success to Maidenhead United Walking Football.
Walking Football is open to ALL players, male over 50 and female over 40, regardless of abilities. We are a friendly, all inclusive, community team.
