Maidenhead United are delighted to announce the signing of young forward Freddy Dunham.
The 18-year-old attacker joins following an incredible season with Abingdon United, where he scored 35 goals and registered eight assists in 42 games. A record that meant Freddy was the highest scoring teenager across the football pyramid in the country last campaign.
His fine scoring paid dividends as in early March Freddy was invited for a three-week trial with then EFL Championship side Oxford United.
To close out an impressive season, Freddy took home the Manager’s Player of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season at the Yellows’ award evening.
Following Freddy’s addition to his attacking depth, Ryan Peters said: “I’m delighted Freddy has chosen us to support the next chapter of his development.
“His goals and assist last season were incredibly impressive. He has a drive and willingness to work hard and improve, which can only support our quest this season.”
Speaking for the first time as a Maidenhead United player, Freddy said: “It feels really good to finally get the deal over the line. I had interest from lots of other clubs locally, but Maidenhead really stuck out to me and seemed like a no-brainer.
“As soon as my agent told me that Maidenhead were interested, it was a no-brainer to ignore the other clubs. I know they’re a big club and used to be in the National League a couple of seasons ago, and hopefully I can help them get back to where they’re supposed to be.”
After speaking with his new boss, Freddy said: “He [Ryan] said they’re looking for goals and hopefully I can give them what they need.”
“I think they can expect pace in behind and tearing up the defenders,” Freddy said, outlining what we can expect from him in a black and white shirt.
Last season was his first in Men’s football, and Freddy was sure to have grown as a player in that time: “I learned how to deal with the physical aspect of the game and learning off of older players was a big thing for me last year - just picking up tips wherever I can get them.”
Looking ahead to next season and beyond, Freddy said: “Obviously I want to get as high [up the football pyramid] as I can and impressing at Maidenhead will be the first step and my main focus at the moment. So, I hope that can give me a bright future.”
Feddy is avaialble to sponsor for the 2026/27 season. Please contact commercial@maidenheadunitedfc.org to find out more.
