Maidenhead United would like to recognise the contributions and United career of Will de Havilland, following the announcement on Saturday afternoon of his departure at the end of the season.
The announcement draws to a close de Havilland’s five-year stay at the Magpies, having joined Alan Devonshire’s side in the summer of 2021. 200 appearances and ten goals later, Will departs York Road held in high regard by his teammates, fans and staff at the club.
Four seasons in the National League ultimately culminated with relegation last campaign, but showing his commitment to the club, Will chose to remain. At the start of this season and Will was rightly promoted by the man who signed him to Club Captain - stating both his love for the club and his mission to secure promotion straight back to Step 1 as his main reasons to stay. This was a role not unfamiliar to him, having donned the armband numerous times both at previous clubs and in the absence of his predecessor Alan Massey.
Ever-present and instrumental once again this campaign, the skipper has appeared 40 times this time out including adding three more to his scoring tally. The first two of the goals came against his former side Dover Athletic, where he scored a double to secure a 2-1 victory at The Crabble. His third of the season came on the road again, this time at Salisbury when he scored the fourth of six on a memorable night in Wiltshire.
Perhaps even greater than his contributions in front of goal, Will has been a critical part of United boasting the best defensive record in the league this season, often contributing in ways that aren’t headline making, with numerous crucial blocks and interventions.
Off the field, Will has been a real orchestrator of community activities in recent times. The skipper has been crucial in supporting events such as the squad’s visit to Maidenhead Library, the training session for MUFC Juniors and his ongoing support for young Magpie, Mason.
Signing off in style, Will was sure to depart York Road on Saturday afternoon with his now trademark airplane into fist pumps celebration towards the Magpies fans and was duly met by huge cheers.
Will has represented our club, both on and off the field, in the best possible way and we wish him nothing but the very best for whatever comes next.
