Maidenhead United’s Women’s Walking Football teams rounded off their league campaigns with a positive final round of fixtures, with both squads able to reflect on a season of progress, development and memorable moments.
Maidenhead Blacks finished the season strongly, beginning the day with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against league leaders Bicester. Two disciplined goalless draws followed against the Woking sides, with Rosie producing a number of outstanding saves and Jo and Pauline impressing with excellent marking throughout.
The highlight of the day came in a superb 3-0 victory over Denham, as Shazza claimed a brilliant hat-trick to cap a strong team performance. The Blacks then ended the day with another clean sheet against Hersham, in a game they will feel they could have won, only for the opposition goalkeeper to make several impressive saves to deny Karen and Debs.
The results saw Maidenhead Blacks finish third in Division 3, just one point outside the promotion places – an excellent achievement and a strong platform to build on.
Maidenhead Whites also had plenty to be proud of following another challenging round of fixtures in a highly competitive Division 4. In their first season together, the team produced some of their best football of the campaign, including two excellent 0-0 draws.
There was impressive passing and movement from Sosi and Vanda, while Cookie and Steph were both unfortunate not to find the net. Although results in the middle fixtures did not go their way, the Whites continued to compete with real determination, with Clare and Jan leading by example defensively.
As a new team, Maidenhead Whites can be immensely proud of their first season. Special congratulations go to goalkeeper Becca for a campaign full of important saves, as well as Sosi, Vanda, Rachel and Theresa, who all made their competitive league debuts this year.
Congratulations to everyone who represented Maidenhead United’s Women’s Walking Football teams this season, and a special thank you to coach Debs for her hard work behind the scenes. Her organisation, commitment and dedication throughout the campaign have been greatly appreciated by everyone involved.
