LONELINESS AND SOCIAL ISOLATION
Throughout December 2024, we wanted to ensure that nobody was alone during a difficult time of the year. Christmas, while typically associated with joy, family and festivities, can be a challenging time for people suffering loneliness and social isolation. The long, dark days, cold weather, and fear of missing out can make it especially difficult.
On Boxing Day, we invited all supporters to bring someone along for free. More than 1,800 people were present to watch a 3-1 victory over Wealdstone but, more importantly, were able to spend time with like-minded people.

Loneliness and social isolation can impact anyone, at any time of the year. More than 3,000,000 people feel lonely or isolated across England every year, and our valued partners CALM have guides to help.

Let’s face it, winter can be depressing. Some days no amount of roast potatoes can rid you of the seasonal sads and the temptation to crawl back into your duvet dungeon hits different. It’s not just you, this time of year can be a real slog. If winter’s bogging you down, here’s some stuff to help.
There are things about this time of year that can make it super tough on your mental health. And around 2 million people in the UK suffer from seasonal depression. Short days, high heating bills, the social lull when all your mates just want to hibernate, and the bugs that come with colder weather - it’s no surprise we can feel a bit bleh.
Then there's everything that comes with one year coming to a close and the pressures of starting a new one. It might not feel like it, but just like winter, shitty days will pass, but if you’re struggling to see a way forward remember our services are here for you.

CALM’s vision is that no one feels like suicide is their only option. But right now, too many people are struggling to see a way forward.
Every day in the UK we lose 18 people to suicide. This isn’t just a stat on a page. These are our mums and dads, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, partners and friends. That’s why CALM is here every day to help anyone struggling with life - and provide everyone with the skills to help prevent suicide.
Because suicide prevention doesn’t just start in a moment of crisis. It starts with helping people find the tools to manage their wellbeing every day. It starts with smashing the stigma and changing attitudes towards suicide. It starts with learning life-saving skills so we can support each other. Stopping suicide starts with all of us.
The cost of living crisis is dampening the usual Christmas spirit. With more than two fifths of the UK feeling worse off than last year, the thought of cashing out for Christmas can be worrying. Stresses can really pile up during the festive period, so if you’re feeling a bit bah humbug about it all, CALM have pulled together some proper useful tips to get you through.
