MONEY WORRIES

MONEY WORRIES

The ever-rising cost of living can put a strain on our finances, and January can only add to financial woes. The combination of an early pay cheque in December, combined with an expensive Christmas period, can make the first month of the year particularly challenging for millions across the UK.

Most people have money troubles at some point, but if your financial worries are starting to take over your life, you should talk to someone about how you're feeling.

When we’re struggling financially it can impact all aspects of our lives. Money is tied to things like responsibility, perceptions of success, how we socialise, and how we work, which can make it even more difficult to cope with. No matter what you’re going through, remember money troubles are temporary. While things might feel overwhelming, there is always a way forward.

If you're feeling suicidal or have thoughts of harming yourself because of your financial situation you can talk to CALM, who have a dedicated guide to overcoming financial stress.
Skint, broke, hard up - there’s a bunch of words for being short on cash, but it can be hard to find the right ones when it comes to talking about money stresses. 1 in 4 of us worry about money daily, that’s huge. If financial worries are piling up and impacting your head, here’s some useful stuff to help you talk about money and your mental health.

Since the cost of living crisis began, our services have seen a 43% increase in chats about cash. Despite this, there’s still a big stigma when it comes to talking about money. In fact, it’s considered more of a taboo topic than mental wellbeing.

Most of us have worried about money at some point, but that doesn’t make telling your mate you can’t afford that night out any less awkward, or make the sinking feeling when you go into your overdraft any less grim. Sadly we can’t magic up a milli in your bank account, but we can give you some tips on talking about dosh instead.
Money worries can be a challenging subject to talk about as we feel the pinch at the end of January.

Our partners at CALM spoke with singer/songwriter Milena Sanchez about the the mental health impact worrying about money can have.
