UNITED AS ONE
It was a wonderful weekend for the Women as MUWFC First and Development team both won league fixtures on the same afternoon for the first time this season.
Ed Jackson Norris’s first team recorded a much-needed three points against Bridgwater United. The richly deserved but hard-fought victory moved the Magpies eight points clear of the FAWNL Division 1 South West drop zone.

United struck the woodwork twice and finally edged in front just after the hour when Macey-Nikiah Walters led a counterattack and crossed for top-scorer Simone O’Brien to crash the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Visitors Bridgwater – relegated from the FAWNL Southern Premier division last season – hit back instantly but the Magpies kept their composure and edged back in front with just over ten minutes to play when Walters glided home a delightful header at the end of a quality free-kick delivery from Freya Meadows Tuson to win the game.

Meanwhile, the Development team – who have excelled in cup matches this term – recorded their first-ever FAWNL Reserve South East and Central division victory at Rugby Borough. Niall Irwin’s team found themselves 2 up in this match via MUFC Academy player Amelie Mayani and an own goal, but the hosts came back to level early in the second period. The team have been improving week-on-week and showed the resilience to secure a thrilling three points through Mayani’s terrific lobbed finish.

The First team are without a competitive game on Sunday 18th February however the Development team will host Hashtag United in a 2pm kick-off at Cox Green Leisure Centre.
