UNITED AS ONE
Maidenhead United women started 2024 with a bang in recording an 8-0 success at Selsey in their first match after the break; the club’s largest ever margin of victory in the FA Women’s National League.
United dominated the entirety of the contest and should have been ahead well before Megan Halfacree’s strike just before the twenty-minute mark. Macey Nikiah-Walters scored twice before the break and in the second half an unfortunate Selsey own goal, a goal from top scorer Simone O’Brien, a brace from Aleasha Lunn, and a contribution from Izzy Stockton wrapped things up.

Manager Ed Jackson-Norris was delighted with how his team responded to a three-week break in fixtures, particularly as two debutants put in composed performances. Wing-back Trinity Esprit impressed and claimed an assist in her first game whilst centre-back Freya Meadows Tuson – on dual registration with Championship neighbours Reading – also excelled.

Meadows Tuson, one of five teenagers to start the game for Jackson-Norris, spoke before the game and described herself as a “Composed, committed and vocal player”, adding: “I enjoy defending and I’m willing to put my body on the line.” The youngster has played first-team football for Reading this season but admitted:

“I wanted to play regular football at a team that has a good structure and has all the right values. I liked the level of support they provide their players with and it seemed like a club that I would benefit from being at. It’s been really good, the girls set high standards for each other whilst maintaining a positive environment. The coaches also seem committed to getting progress from the team, on and off the pitch. It’s not easy to come into a new team but the girls have been so welcoming and supportive. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The acquisitions of Freya and Trinity show the ambition of Ed and his coaching team and we warmly welcome both new players to the club. Both players are available to sponsor and for further details of our sponsorship package please contact treasurer@mufcjuniors.co.uk
