'Keeper Kenny Eyes York Road Debut

Maidenhead United Women return to action at York Road on Sunday after two successive weekends on the road with summer-signing Kenny Clarke hoping to make her home debut. 

 

The American – a student at Reading University – is in her first season with the club and earned a call-up for the First Team after her heroics in saving two penalties – and scoring one herself – in the Development team’s FAWNL Reserve League Cup victory against Cheltenham earlier in the month. 

 

Kenny also impressed in her first-ever First Team match when she pulled off a string of fine saves against league-leaders AFC Bournemouth and the charismatic ‘keeper admitted: “I hadn’t played in goal for about a year before I came to play at MUWFC so naturally I was worried. As you can imagine, goalkeeping is quite the unforgiving position to make mistakes in and I’m having to shake off the cobwebs, something I’m still in the process of.” 

 

Clarke is already making an impression at the club and continues: “The supportive, encouraging, and overall positive environment at MUWFC has allowed me to focus on getting back to my own game. From players to staff, it’s a really fun environment that makes me happy I decided to return to competitive play. Despite the rough few weeks from a results standpoint, I’m really excited to see what we do as a club this year and I’m excited for this weekend.” 

 

Kenny and her teammates have the opportunity to get back to form as they face basement side Selsey in the FAWNL Plate, having already beaten the south coast side 5-0 in the league this season. Admission at York Road in this 2pm kick-off will be FREE for MUFC Gold Members, otherwise £5 for adults and £2 for concessions (cash only). The Magpies matchday programme costs £1. 

 

Meanwhile, the Development team will be at home at Holyport FC when they host London Seaward in the next round of the FAWNL Reserve League Cup. Admission will be £2 for adults, £1 concessions.
